The Global Movement Initiative

We believe easy access to high-quality, safe and relevant physical activity opportunities is a human right for any resident, globally.

ActiveXchange has expanded its Movement Data footprint across the globe, empowering a network of organisations that now stretches from Vancouver to Melbourne to London and Manchester, and even the Faroe Islands – and many thriving local communities in between.

Our goal for the Movement Data initiative is to help better connect people with place. It’s not just about being able to easily see where and when communities come together (or don’t), or even levels of usage of any area, to help efficiently focus resources. By also creating a wider network of shared learnings around the data, it means those who are responsible for community open spaces, parks and recreation (activating communities) are able to draw down the most relevant and up to date insights – leveraging collective data intelligence of a passionate and globally connected network or planners, commissioners and those that operate and maintain. So everyone knows with confidence what’s working, what’s not, so what next!

We are continuing to shape this network, so for example, community decision-makers in Canada can learn from the local experiences and solutions in Australia, and then share those insights with their counterparts in the UK. This means we can all protect, champion and continually shape these vitally important active environments. ActiveXchange also draws in data intelligence on registered sport and recreation participants and programs, which provides yet a further lens as to how to activate places, and put the right offer, into the right place, at the right time.

This is a progressive but needed step forward for the well-being of millions of residents, powered by data, technology, and the collective intelligence of a joined up community. Together we can create a healthier, more active world for all types of residents.
