ActiveXchange Launches Enhanced Movement Dashboard

ActiveXchange has updated the dashboard within the Movement Data Module, providing users with access to a range of enhanced insights and enabling bespoke analyses and data presentation.

These new features are made possible through the addition of new filter options within the dashboard, which are comprised of the below filters.

Years filter

We now have 2 complete years of data within the platform (2022-2023). This filter enables you quickly and simply to select which year(s) you are interested in interrogating. As we move into the third year of data within the platform, users will have the option to select from any or all of those three years.

Months Filter

The Months Filter enables the creation of bespoke graphs, analysing and presenting data only from those months selected from the drop-down list. You are able to select as many or as few as is useful (without the requirement for them to be sequential periods). Users may find this useful to highlight comparisons between years for key periods at different points in the year, or perhaps to focus on presenting movement data seasonally.

Display Time Series As Filter

Add Your Heading Text Here

This filter controls how data is displayed for various time comparisons. This is one of the most useful additions to the dashboard, and when used in conjunction with some of the other filters, it unlocks a wide range of new insights for users. The options within this filter are:

  • Linear: Chronological from Jan 2022. This provides the total visit estimate for the periods selected, combining any periods in which multiple years have been selected.
  • Year on Year: Comparison year on year. This will display 2 series for one quadkey collection, one for each year selected. This enables users to compare the same site over multiple years, within the same graph.
  • Year on Year (Combined Avg.): Year on year data averaged. This filter provides an average estimate for the periods selected, by taking each of the periods selected over multiple years, then by dividing that figure by the number of years e.g. Jan 2022 = 100 + Jan 2023 = 200 /2 (number of years) = 150.
  • Month on Month: Comparison month on month. This filter is intended to provide the option to view and compare variations in usage for individual months, using all data starting from 2022 (if selecting ‘all years’ in the previous filter).
  • Month on Month by Year: Each year/month represented as individual series (hour of day profile only). This is similar to the previous filter option, but displays time of day for each year selected as an individual series, enabling users to see if patterns of usage throughout the day have changed, year on year.
Specific months and the ‘Year on Year’ time series have been selected enabling users to compare sites over multiple years within the same graph.

Day Type Filter

This providers users with the option to look at four different variations of data presentation:

  • All (Combined Series): Aggregates Weekday and Weekend into a single series
  • All (Individual Series): Weekday and Weekend as separate series
  • Weekday Only: Weekday data only
  • Weekend Only: Weekend data only

When used in combination with the ‘Display Time Series As’ Filter, it enables a wide range of insights to be presented, enabling a deeper level of analysis and data presentation.

All (Individual Series) on the ‘Day Type’ filter has been selected so it is easy to compare weekends and weekdays across locations.

Geographic Aggregation Filter

This filter replaces the previous ‘aggregate/avg’ filter in the earlier version, and allows users to look at the total movement in the collections for the periods selected, or to display two differing types of average movement for the quadkey collections(s):

  • Total: The sum of all reported activity levels
  • Active Average: The average activity in all Quadkeys where activity is reported (which excludes any quadkeys selected in the collection which reported no activity) or the average activity in active QKs
  • Area Density: The average activity across all Quadkeys in the Collection or average per hectare (i.e. 100m x 100m)

Time Aggregation Filter

This filter enables users to present the selected data hourly, daily, or by month:

  • Hourly: The hourly average activity
  • Daily: The daily average activity level
  • Monthly: The total activity for the Month
Monthly has been selected in the ‘Time Aggregation’ filter.

Hours of Day Filter

This final filter enables users to select the time period for analysis. This filter is useful for investigating any particular periods of interest throughout the day (for example, commuter periods) or for conducting analyses during times at which the site is open to the public. It can be done quickly and simply by moving the slider to the positions which define the start and end period of your intended investigation. Please note that the data will include the hours defined as the start and end period by the slider position  (e.g. slider set to 23 will include movement 23:00 – 23:59).

Summary

We are excited at the myriad options now available to customers through the much-improved dashboard, and feel confident that these advanced analyses will still be quick and easy for all to use. We are, as always, on hand to support any users to make sure you are confident in your ability to access the insights needed for your work, with updated demos available on our site and the customer success team available to help with any specific support needs.
